I loved those Viewmaster reels when I was a kid. It was like being there!
I have a viewer and set of old sepia toned images from WW 1.
Today I do my own 3D creations with digital photography with much greater resolution and a selection of viewers and glasses.
I hope you'll share my interest in this great aspect of photography, and maybe become as passoionate as I about it.
There are 2 main types of 3D methods:
The type when you where the glasses, and side-by-side type that requires a viewer.
Back in the day when I was young (just after the jerassic period) the 3D movies where the old "Ma and Pa Kettle" in black and white and we used paper red and blue lens glasses to watch them.
The paper red and blue glasses are still available, but they don't do well with color as the reds, blues and greens kind of get lost in the mix.
Today's 3D movies are done with polorized images and glasses so the color is not affected. Of course, the processing and glasses cost more and that' why you have to give them back.
I tend to shy away from the anaglyphic process because of color issues.
The Side-By-Side process is far more to my liking as I think the depth perception is more realistic and the colors remain more true. The technique is called Stereogram.
The down side is you do need a viewer so the left eye only sees the left image and the right eye only sees the right image and your brain does the "fussion" into a 3D perception.
Most of my 3D stills are landscapes and flowers. They don't require a model release form.
I'm currently working on a project with the Oregon Garden. So far I have images from Summer, Fall, and Winter, and I'm looking forward to the blooms in spring. You may view these images (with the SMA watermark) at The Oregon Garden Project on my Google drive.
You will need a 3D viewer to see the 3D effect, otherwise it just two very similar images next to each other.

I've done some 3D video, some in Anaglyphic (glasses) and some Stereogram (side-by-side) and mostly the topic is underwater.
I don't mind using anaglyphic for underwater 3D as usually the colors are lost in the Deep Blue of the warm water dives, or in the Green Murk of Pacific Northwest diving. You will need the glasses(red/blue) or the side by side viewer to enjoy them. I am not presenting them here. I use the plastic "wrap-arounds" when I'm editing Anaglyphic
There are several Stereogram (side by side)viewers available from small, fold-up cardboard box with lenses to the large Stereoscps from Japan that are adjustable enough to see images on the side of a barn. I have a 30 inch monitor for the main system and a large screen tv in the living room that these will accomodate.
I have a "poke scope", foldable plastic viewer that is my favorite when editing the stereograms.
Because teh stereogram viewers are "physical", they have focal lenth. Here's a short rundown:
There are many tutorials out on the web and book available. Tools like split image lenses are available through 3DStereo.com for many camera bodies. I use the Manfroto 454 slide (Amazon) for my Sony A77 bodies and have a Fujifilm Real 3D twin lens snap shooter for action shots.
